Spanish Florida

The SSDA Spanish Florida Collection contains ecclesiastical documents from the Archives of the Diocese of St. Augustine. This collection of 30 volumes (nearly 10,000 images in total) contains records from the late sixteenth through late nineteenth centuries, and include the oldest to document the lives of Africans and Afro-descended people in the future United States. In addition to the documents themselves, this section of the archive contains information on the development of the project as well as a small selection of transcriptions. The collection is organized in a geographical hierarchy, beginning with a modern state and descending to a modern city and finally the institution where the document in question was originally produced.
